Direct Cremation in South London

South London View from Greenwich Park

Funeral costs have risen for the past seventeen years, and this trend is unlikely to change. Across the UK, London has the most expensive funeral costs, averaging £5,235 for a basic funeral.

As a result, many people are turning to direct cremation as a cheaper alternative to traditional, more ostentatious funerals. DirectCremation.co.uk provides dignified, 100% carbon neutral direct cremations in South London that are both professional and affordable.

Why choose direct cremation in South London?

We guarantee to provide the lowest cost direct cremations in South London. At £895 for a direct cremation, this is substantially less than funeral costs throughout the UK. Moreover, we take care of everything on your behalf with no upfront costs or hidden fees.

By separating the cremation process from an attended service, we reduce costs for our clients. This enables you to arrange your own private and bespoke service to celebrate the deceased person’s life in your own time. Many of our South London customers take the opportunity to incorporate the scattering of the ashes into a highly personalised ceremony that truly reflects the person they are remembering.

Direct cremations in South London – what’s included?

Included within the standard £895 fee for a direct cremation, we will handle all the arrangements for you. We will collect the person who has died from any hospital or mortuary in South London and bring them to our London crematorium. They will be provided with a simple, British-made and environmentally-friendly coffin.

In fact, we are 100% carbon neutral and uses sustainable materials wherever possible.

Furthermore, we will also perform the cremation itself. This is always a private and completely individual event that usually occurs early in the morning. The next of kin will be informed of the date and time in advance in case you would like to mark this occasion remotely.

We do not have attendees at the cremation because we use a regional crematorium in London, not always the one most local to you, and we do not rent out the chapel. This reduces the cost for our customers.

Also included in the £895 fee, the ashes can be scattered in the tranquil Garden of Remembrance at our London crematorium.

Answer a few questions and we'll give you an exact price with no strings attached. Alternatively you can also call our team directly on 0800 133 7961 for advice.

Are there any additional services?

Besides everything included in the standard fee, there are a number of additional services that you can add. For £91 extra, we will hand-deliver the ashes of the deceased to any address in England and Wales, sending them in an engraved and sustainably-sourced wooden urn.

If your loved one’s death is not being investigated by the coroner then we must pay the doctor’s certification fee. This cost is fixed by the British Medical Association and goes directly to the doctor.

Likewise, we can also bring your loved one from any private residence, care home or other non-hospital or mortuary to the crematorium. This will incur an additional £250 fee due to the costs involved in partnering with a local funeral director.

Most importantly when someone dies, you must officially inform the government of the death by registering it. This should be completed within five days at the registry office closest to where the death took place.

To find out where the nearest registry office is located, you can use the Find a register office search tool. Or, we have listed the registrars in South London below.

Please note that it is not necessary to register a death if the coroner has been called to investigate the cause. In such situations, the coroner will inform the government instead. You can provide the coroner working on the case with our contact information and we will communicate with them on your behalf.

Around half of all people in the UK die in hospitals. Subsequently, hospital staff are familiar with the necessary paperwork to fill in and they will begin this for you. Nevertheless, they are unable to register the death for you and so you must complete this yourself.

To provide people with assistance, most hospitals have a bereavement team. You can find a list of hospital bereavement services in South London below.
