Funerals of every kind fulfil several important symbolic and psychological functions. They help people to acknowledge that someone they love has died and provide the opportunity to say goodbye. The bringing together of family and friends often offers support and helps individuals to reflect on the life of the person who has passed away.
The type of funeral that people choose to have reflects their beliefs, character and situation. For example, direct cremations are a popular option for those seeking minimum fuss and maximum value for money. A direct cremation involves separating the cremation from any accompanying service. This enables the friends and family of the deceased to arrange an entirely personal service at a convenient time for them to all attend.
Direct Cremation in Hampshire
DirectCremation.co.uk offers the lowest-cost direct cremation in Southampton, Portsmouth, Basingstoke, Eastleigh, and all other areas of Hampshire. In fact, we guarantee that our fee, starting from £895, is cheaper than any other in England and Wales whilst still providing an exemplary and highly professional service.
You can contact our warm and expert team to find out more and to begin arranging a direct cremation in Hampshire by calling 0800 133 7961 or sending an email to [email protected].
Included in this £895 fee is:
- Collection of the body from any hospital or mortuary in Hampshire and transportation to the crematorium
- An environmentally-friendly simple coffin, designed and made by British craftsmen
- The individual and private cremation itself
- The option to have the ashes scattered in our crematorium’s Garden of Remembrance
We also have a few optional services available which incur additional fees. For instance:
- Hand delivery of the ashes to your address in a sustainably-sourced and British-made wooden urn, embossed with an engraved nameplate for £91
- The collection of the body from any hospice, nursing home or private residence for £250. (Unlike collection from hospitals or mortuaries, this necessitates partnering with a local funeral director which is why it incurs the additional fee.)
- Removal of pacemakers or other battery-powered implanted devices by a qualified professional for £100. (Please note that this is necessary for those with such devices for the cremation to take place.)
For Hampshire residents who would prefer to have a formal service with attendees, you can arrange a personalised funeral with Willow Lake in Southampton and Eastleigh.
Payment
We does not request any upfront payments. On the contrary, our professional team will invoice you after the cremation and give you two weeks in which to compensate us.
We also receive the Government’s Funeral Expenses Payment from those eligible. If you get in touch with us we can help you to arrange this.

We have also outlined the steps to follow when someone passes away, available here.
The main thing you need to do is to register the death. This can usually take place over the phone. This step is not necessary however, if a coroner is involved. Instead, simply give the coroner our contact details and we will liaise with them on your behalf. You can find a list of coroners in Hampshire below.
You will need to register the death at the closest registrar to where the death occurred. Please see a list of local registrars and their contact information below, or you can use the government’s Find a register office tool.
If the death occurred at a hospital, the staff will typically have a bereavement team who will begin completing the paperwork for you. You will still need to register the death however. Please see a list of hospital bereavement services in Hampshire below.
