Unattended Funeral

Forest in the sun

An unattended funeral, also known as a direct cremation or direct funeral, is a funeral where the deceased is cremated without a ceremony or a gathering of friends and family beforehand. Some consider it a difficult or emotional experience for those who knew and loved the person who has passed away, as it can feel like a final goodbye without the opportunity to say farewell at more traditional funeral service.

But it’s important to remember that everyone grieves differently, and an unattended funeral may be the best option for some. Some people may not want a traditional funeral service or may not have the financial means to afford one. Therefore an unattended funeral can be a more affordable option and can also provide a sense of closure for the family by having a memorial service at a later date or marking the occasion remotely.

You should be aware that the family may have chosen an unattended funeral because they want to focus on their personal grieving process and not have to organise and cope with a public event. They may consider the idea of a big gathering overwhelming and an unattended funeral may provide them with more privacy and solitude than a funeral service.

And just because there is no ceremony or public farewell, it doesn’t mean that the person’s life is any less valuable or that they will be forgotten. An unattended funeral doesn’t mean that you can’t honour the person’s memory in your own way. At a later date, you could still plan a memorial service or a gathering of friends and family to celebrate their life and share memories.

The family may choose to hold a memorial service or a celebration of life at a later time, or they may choose to scatter the ashes in a special place that holds meaning for them.

Bedfordshire Woods

Direct Cremation in Bedfordshire

Bedfordshire Woods

For many families, the expense of a funeral creates a lot of additional stress during an already difficult time. The average cost of a funeral in the UK has reached £4,800 – an extortionate figure. At DirectCremation.co.uk, we believe that funerals should be affordable and accessible for everyone, without compromising dignity or respect. As such, we offer direct cremation in Bedfordshire for £895, with no upfront costs or hidden payments.

Direct cremation separates the cremation itself from the funeral service. This means that there are no mourners in attendance, with the cremation taking place respectfully and privately at one of our regional crematoria. Many families then choose to hold their own memorial services at a later date, with the scattering of the ashes often being incorporated into these celebrations.

What is included in our £895 direct cremation in Bedfordshire?

For our standard price of £895, we will collect your loved one from any hospital or mortuary in England or Wales, and transport them to our regional crematoria. If the deceased is in a private home, hospice or other residence, collection will incur an additional fee of £250 as we will be required to send our on-call team 24/7.

Once collected, your loved one will be looked after and provided with an environmentally-friendly wooden coffin, made by British craftsmen. The cremation will then take place privately and respectfully at our crematorium, and we will make sure that you are aware of the date and time beforehand. Following the cremation, the ashes can be scattered in the crematorium’s Garden of Remembrance. If you would prefer to have the ashes returned to you, they can be hand-delivered in an eco-friendly urn, with an engraved nameplate, for £91. Many families will then choose to scatter the ashes later on.

Can I attend the cremation?

Unfortunately, mourners are unable to attend the cremation as there is no venue or chapel hired out to host a service. Instead, we will inform you of the exact time and date at which the cremation will take place, should you wish to mark the occasion.

Often, the family and friends of the deceased will arrange their own celebrations of their loved one’s life after the cremation has taken place, at a date and time which may hold sentimental value, or a time of year with more favourable weather.

How do you keep costs down?

Direct cremation is much more affordable than traditional funeral services. This is because there is no additional expense of hiring out a venue in which to host the funeral service. Instead, there is only the cost of the cremation itself, the coffin, and the transportation of the deceased beforehand. Traditional funeral services become excessively expensive due to the cost of the venue, flowers, catering, transportation of guests, and other additional costs.

Direct Cremation in Hertfordshire

Bluebells in Hertfordshire

Direct cremation is an increasingly popular alternative to traditional funeral services. With the average cost of a funeral in the UK having risen to a staggering £4,800, more and more families are turning to direct cremation in Hertfordshire, which now accounts for 1 in every 14 funerals.

Direct cremation differs from traditional funeral services, because there is no service at the time of cremation. Instead, the cremation takes place privately and respectfully at our regional crematorium, and then the ashes are returned to your family at a later date, or scattered in the Garden of Remembrance. This is what enables us to keep costs down, as there is no additional cost of hiring out a chapel or other venue. DirectCremation.co.uk offers direct cremation in Hertfordshire for just £895, with no upfront payments or hidden costs.

If you would like more information about direct cremation, or wish to begin making arrangements, please contact a member of the team on 0800 133 7961, or email us at [email protected]

What’s included in the cost?

For the standard price of £895 we will collect your loved one from any hospital or mortuary in England or Wales, and transport them to our regional crematorium. We will then provide them with an environmentally-friendly, wooden coffin made by British craftsmen, and they will be looked after until the cremation takes place. There will then be a private and respectful cremation at our regional crematorium, and we will ensure that you are informed of the date and time beforehand. Following the cremation, the ashes can then be scattered at the crematorium’s Garden of Remembrance.

Are there any additional costs or services?

Yes, whilst our standard price of £895 includes all of the above services, there are also optional extras which incur an additional cost.

If you’d prefer to have the ashes returned to you, rather than scattered in the Garden of Remembrance, they can be hand delivered to you after the cremation. They will be packaged in a sustainable, wooden urn complete with an engraved nameplate and delivered at your convenience for £91.

Collection of your loved one from a hospice, nursing home, or private residence incurs an additional fee of £250, to enable us to partner with local funeral directors. Collection from any hospital or coroner is included in our standard fee.

If the deceased has a pacemaker or other battery-powered device, this must be removed before the cremation can take place. As this requires a qualified professional to certify if removal is necessary, this costs an additional £100.

Those who are over 6 feet tall or weigh more than 200lbs, require a custom coffin and the use of specialised equipment. This costs £250.

Direct Cremation in Buckinghamshire

View of Buckinghamshire

The South East of England has the second highest funeral costs in the UK, with a staggering average price of £4,800. For many people, this is an impossible figure, leading to a great deal of financial strain at an already difficult time. As a result, direct cremation in Buckinghamshire is growing in popularity as it provides an affordable alternative to extortionate traditional funeral services. At DirectCremation.co.uk, we offer direct cremation for just £895, without compromising on dignity or quality, and with no upfront fees or hidden payments.

What is direct cremation?

Direct cremation is also known as a direct funeral or unattended cremation. This is because it separates the cremation from a funeral service or memorial. Instead, the body of the deceased is cremated respectfully and privately at one of our regional crematoria, without mourners in attendance. Afterwards, the ashes are either scattered in the crematorium’s Garden of Remembrance or returned to their next of kin. Many families then choose to arrange their own service or memorial at a later date, at a time and price point which works for them. Often the scattering of the ashes is then incorporated into these memorials.

Hadleigh in Essex

In recent years direct cremation has increased in popularity, and now accounts for 1 in every 14 funerals. This is largely due to its affordability compared to more traditional funerals, and at DirectCremation.co.uk we offer direct cremation for just £895, with no upfront costs or hidden payments.

Losing a loved one is a challenging experience, and this is often only worsened by the additional financial strain it can incur. Direct cremation helps to ease this stress, providing a low cost alternative to expensive funerals. Direct cremation also provides the flexibility to plan a memorial however you would like it. This can involve waiting for a certain time of year when the weather is more favourable, or at a time which holds sentimental value. It may also allow families to choose a time and place which is more convenient for them.

What is direct cremation in Essex?

Direct cremation is also known as unattended cremation. This is because it separates the cremation itself from the funeral service, and as such there are no mourners in attendance. This is what makes direct cremation more affordable than traditional funerals in which there is a service attached, as there is no additional expense of hiring out a chapel or venue, or the services of a celebrant. Instead, the deceased is cremated at one of our regional crematoria and then the ashes are either scattered in the Garden of Remembrance, or returned to your family.

Direct cremation means that families can arrange their own service or celebrations of their loved one’s life, at a time and price which works for them. For many families, the scattering of the ashes is then incorporated into these celebrations.

They will then be looked after until the cremation itself, which will take place privately at one of our regional crematoriums. You will be informed of the date and time in advance, should you wish to mark the occasion. Following the cremation, the ashes can be scattered in the crematorium’s Garden of Remembrance, free of charge. Alternatively, they can be returned to you in a sustainably-sourced, wooden urn made by British craftsmen, complete with an engraved nameplate, for the additional fee of £91.

Can I attend the cremation?

Unfortunately not. In order to keep costs down, direct cremations are unattended. This is because there is no chapel or other venue hired out whilst the cremation takes place, as such there are no mourners in attendance.

Forest in Surrey

Direct Cremation in Surrey

Forest in Surrey

Losing a loved one is a very challenging and emotional time. As many people know, this can be exacerbated by the added stress of extortionate funeral costs and financial difficulty. As a result of this, many people are now opting for direct cremations over more traditional funeral and burial services.

Direct cremation is a low cost alternative to expensive, and sometimes extravagant, funerals, as the cremation itself is separated from the service or memorial. At DirectCremation.co.uk, a direct cremation costs a standard price of £895, with no hidden fees or upfront payments. If direct cremation appeals to you and your family, call us today on 0800 133 7961 and a member of our experienced team will help guide you through the rest of the process.

What is direct cremation?

Direct cremation is an increasingly popular alternative to traditional cremation services and burials, and now accounts for over 14 percent of all funerals. The rise in funeral costs has led to this increase in popularity for direct cremation, as it provides a more affordable option.

Direct cremation is also known as unattended cremation, as it separates the cremation of the body from the service itself. This means that there are no mourners in attendance, and the cremation takes place respectfully and privately at one of our regional crematoria. For Surrey, cremations take place in West London in order to keep costs down, and you will be informed of the date and time in advance, should you wish to mark the occasion. This means there is no need for the expense of hiring out a chapel or other venue to host the service, helping to keep our price affordable.

Your loved one will then be collected by us from any hospital or mortuary in Surrey, and taken directly to our regional crematorium. We will look after them until the cremation and they will be provided with an environmentally friendly wooden coffin, made by British craftsmen. We will also take the stress away from any paperwork, with our team handling legal documentations for you.

Following the cremation, it’s up to you whether you would like us to scatter the ashes for you, free of charge, in our peaceful Garden of Remembrance. Or, if you would prefer to have the ashes returned to you, at the additional cost of £91.

From here you have the freedom, and the time, to plan your desired event. Direct cremation affords you the flexibility to make arrangements at your own pace, without the pressure of the time constraints typical of more traditional funeral services. Many families choose to incorporate the scattering of the ashes during their own memorial services.

Take the first step

Answer a few questions and we'll give you an exact price with no strings attached. Alternatively you can also call our team directly on 0800 133 7961 for advice.

Do you offer any additional services?

Yes, there are a few optional services that can be provided at an additional cost. As previously mentioned, the ashes can be hand delivered to you in a sustainably-sourced wooden urn, complete with an engraved nameplate for £91.

A doctor’s certification is available for £82. It is a legal requirement for a doctor to certify the cause of death unless a coroner is involved. This cost is predetermined by the British Medical Association, and our team will liaise with the doctor to allow the cremation to go ahead as quickly as possible.

Your loved one can be collected from home, or a nursing home, a hospice or other private residence for the additional cost of £250. This is because it requires us to have a local team available 24/7 to take the deceased into our care until the date of cremation. Collection from hospitals and mortuaries is already included in our standard price of £895.

Pacemakers and other battery operated devices must be removed prior to cremation. This incurs a fee of £100 for a qualified professional to certify removal if necessary.

Finally, if the deceased is taller than 6 foot, or weighs over 200lbs, then we must order a custom coffin and use specialised equipment. This additional service costs £250.

Can I choose to pay for a service?

If you would prefer to have a service alongside the cremation, then a more traditional funeral may be a better option. We recommend contacting our partner company London Funerals, who are able to offer services with cremations. Our closest location would be Kingston Upon Thames. Contact a member of their team on 0208 191 2050, or alternatively, send them an email to [email protected]

Southampton Marina

Direct Cremation in Southampton

Southampton Marina

Direct cremation, also known as direct funerals or unattended cremation, is a low cost alternative to more traditional funerals. The average cost of a funeral in the UK has risen to around £4,800. This is an overwhelming figure that many people are not prepared for, and, as such, DirectCremation.co.uk offers direct cremation in Southampton for £895.

What is direct cremation?

Direct cremation separates the cremation itself from the funeral service. Instead, the cremation takes place privately at our regional crematorium, without mourners in attendance. This then enables family and friends to plan their own memorials at a later date, and at a price point that works for them. They may incorporate the scattering of the ashes into their ceremony, and the memorial service can then be secular or religious.

Take the first step

Answer a few questions and we'll give you an exact price with no strings attached. Alternatively you can also call our team directly on 0800 133 7961 for advice.

How does DirectCremation.co.uk keep costs down?

We are able to offer direct cremation at the low price of £895 as there is no service attached to the cremation itself. This means that there is no need to rent out a chapel or pay a celebrant or any religious figure to lead the service.

Unlike many funeral directors who require upfront payment, our standard payment terms are 2 weeks after the cremation has taken place. We also accept the UK Funeral Expenses Payment, which will cover our entire fee, unlike the cost of a traditional funeral.

What’s included with direct cremation in Southampton?

We will collect your loved one from any hospital or mortuary in England or Wales, and take them to our regional crematorium. We will be provided with an environmentally-friendly coffin made by British craftsmen. Then the cremation itself will take place privately, and you will be informed of the date and time in advance should you wish to mark the occasion remotely.

The ashes can then be scattered at the crematorium’s Garden of Remembrance, or alternatively, they can be hand-delivered to you in a sustainably-sourced, British-made wooden urn with an engraved nameplate, at the additional cost of £91.

West Sussex Landscape

Direct Cremation in West Sussex

West Sussex Landscape

In the South East of England the average cost of a burial is a staggering £4,831, and a cremation is not far behind at £3,328. DirectCremation.co.uk offers a more affordable alternative with direct cremation at a starting price of £895, with no upfront payments or hidden costs. Direct cremations are fast becoming a popular alternative to more traditional funeral services, with direct cremation making up 14 percent of all funerals in 2020.

Not only are direct cremations more economical, but they provide a great deal of flexibility during such a challenging time. Many families prefer to organise memorial events for their loved ones at certain times of the year that may hold sentimental value, or opt to wait for better weather during the summer to celebrate the life of their loved one. Direct cremation allows for these wishes, as once the cremation is complete, the ashes can be returned to you for just £91. The ashes are hand delivered to anywhere in England and Wales, in a sustainably-sourced British-made wooden urn with an engraved nameplate.

What is included in direct cremation with DirectCremation.co.uk?

We at DirectCremation.co.uk believe that everyone should have access to affordable funeral services in the UK. As such, direct cremation with us costs just £895, the best value in the UK with no hidden costs or compromise on quality, respect or dignity. We do not require any upfront payments or deposits, and have financing options available.

We will collect your loved one from any hospital or mortuary in England or Wales, and then transport them to one of our crematoria. They will then be provided with an environmentally-friendly coffin, made by British craftsmen.

The cremation will then take place privately at our crematorium. Whilst you will not be in attendance, we will ensure that you are aware of the date and time beforehand should you wish to mark the occasion. This helps keep the cost down for our customers, as there is no need to hire out a chapel.

Following the cremation, you can choose to have the ashes scattered in the Garden of Remembrance at the crematorium at no extra cost. Alternatively, you can have the ashes returned to you, hand-delivered in a sustainably-sourced British-made wooden urn with an engraved nameplate, for an additional fee of £91.

Why choose direct cremation in West Sussex with DirectCremation.co.uk?

Direct cremation with us is a popular choice not only for our reasonable and affordable prices. Direct cremation also frees you from the confines of more traditional funeral services. In an increasingly secular world, many people no longer require the expense and formalities of religious services, and therefore would prefer to avoid the expenditure of hiring out a chapel or entire crematorium for a service they do not need.

Personalised ceremonies for scattering ashes are fast becoming the norm, with around 70% of people opting for cremation over burial. This allows families to then conduct their own memorials for their loved ones, choosing to scatter their ashes in places which hold sentimental value, or to keep their ashes close to them in an urn.

How to arrange a direct cremation in West Sussex?

We aim to make this incredibly difficult time as easy as possible for you. Our experienced team are therefore happy to help you to arrange a direct cremation, as well as to provide any advice you may require. You can call our team directly on 0800 133 7961, or email us at [email protected]
